LIVELOVE, by Rob Levy, is the most interesting film I've seen in a while. People don't always understand what urges people into their chosen professions, honest portrayal in film or books can bring attention and crush stigmas around these topics. LIVELOVE proves this in a refreshingly intimate and different portrait of love and acceptance.
Chris is a normal yet unremarkable young man, working a boring desk job in New York. Lily on the other hand, works as a Camgirl, an online stripper to make money.
The two meet in a cafe, where Chris has an animated break up with his girlfriend, which Lily watches. Left on his own, Lily approaches Chris for a lighter, and and their relationship begins. And so, Caught up in the bliss of a new relationship, Lily and Chris begin to form a close bond, despite their very different personalities and lifestyles, and as they get to know each other more, their relationship is pushed to a breaking point. One of my favourite aspects of LIVELOVE for me was that, rather than focusing on one person in the relationship, the movie focuses on the development of their relationship and how they both change each other (unlike a lot of love films, where one pursues the other).

The cinematography is beautiful, shots of the city are hazy and bright, cast in warm evening light. Lily's work is portrayed with muddled, dark frames, deepening the views around the nature of her job.
The script is written cleverly, playing off their conflicting viewpoints and perspectives, bouncing from one opinion and mindset to another. Chris believes love is irrational, over-rated and about how much you like to spend time with the other person. (It has to be said, all of Chris' past girlfriends have been met online). Lily believes love is deeper and more misunderstood, and more about reliance and trust. In this case, it seems to be true that opposites attract, but not in a overly cliché way. The clever way the script is written, and the complex characters developed made me think about love and relationships, and the film also shed light for me on a topic I knew nothing about.
LIVELOVE portrays the more complicated and difficult sides of modern love, of Tinder and online porn. Written and directed with such talent, Rob Levy promises more great films in the future.

The film will be released at several film festivals throughout 2016 before hitting the big screen. Remember to catch LIVELOVE later on this year post to it's release!
