Spalsh - Starring Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah and Eugene Levy
Predictable in every sense, but a great film nonetheless. If you haven't seen it, (I can't imagine why not), this weeks Retro Revival is Splash - a classic 80's movie on a mermaid who falls in love with none other than Tom Hanks (Allen). In all honesty, it's definitely one of the most unbelievable films out there. I mean, isn't it just really lucky that Allen drops his wallet for Madison to find, or that Walter just happens to see Madison in the newspaper when he needed to find her? Oh and of course there's no such thing as mermaids either, sorry kids. I know, it's the 80's, I shouldn't complain. Still, the amount of predictable luck in this movie is the only real thing that pulls it down. I can applaud the transition scene where we actually get to see Madison transform into a mermaid when her legs touch the water - that was pretty damn clever for the 80's.

Daryl Hannah is beautiful, I think we can all admit that...and some of those underwater shots are even more impeccable than she is, whether it's the hair that does it, or that brilliantly crafted silicone tail. I still don't understand how Tom Hanks character just so happened to possess the power of breathing underwater though, but I guess that will remain a mystery forever.
