I have decided my favourite film genre is drama – and I like it even more if the films are set during the 19th or 20th century. So, I have come up with my top three drama films set from 1900 to the 1950’s.
3. The Danish Girl
A 2015 autobiographical film set in mid 1920’s. I think we have all heard about this one and I was really excited when it came out. I hope it helps people understand what being transgender is about. If Gerda accepted it, I think all of us, almost two decades later, can accept it too.

2. Frances
Filmed in 1982. In another year, this performance would have won Jessica Lange an Oscar, I’m sure. Hollywood and its traps for everyone to fall into.
Alcohol, drugs, rape and a lobotomy? It is a bit of a tough one. But it really is one of the best films I have ever watched.

1. Brooklyn
Now, this is my absolute favourite film. I have so much love for Saoirse Ronan and Ireland and it’s very close to my heart. Eilis is a young Irish immigrant suffering from homesickness in 1950’s Brooklyn, when she finds love.
I tried not to feature any cliché romantic films, and although this one could fit into the romance category as well, I couldn’t help myself.
