Black Honey’s newest EP, Headspin, is just as seductively edgy as you want your summer flirt to be.
Recorded in the space of two weeks in a barn in Normandy, the EP is unexpectedly polished, also when compared to Black Honey’s previous work.
Kicking off with the drenching ‘All Mt Pride’, lead by Izzy Philips' characteristic vocals and spiked with sexy guitar moments. It's vigorously energetic and got a more ‘live’ feel to it than the following tracks. A great boost into the melodic, head-spinning, universe of Black Honey.
Black Honey are a rising star on the UK scene at the moment, with prestigious warm up slots for Catflish and the Bottlemen under their belt. An exciting live band that manage to keep that certain mysterious cool without crossing the line of pretence. In spite of a handful singles and their recently released second EP, they are yet to capture their live magic on record. That being said, Headspin is by no mean a bad EP, with the title track, ‘Headspin’, starting as a melancholic ballad. Slowly moving with lyrics "you make my head spin honey". This is not your typical summer listen, yet it’s exactly what you, subconsciously, dream of when summer twilight hits.

The dual nature between Philip’s voice and the lyrical aspects of the songs is what carries this EP, making it something more than just another ‘trying-to-make-it’ indie release. It is a fact that Black Honey are making it, and they’re making it fast.
“If it was my way we’d still be a secret band” Izzy Phillips once said; yet those days seem to be well over now, and if not they’re soon to be. Making waves wherever they go, and drawing increasingly devoted fans to more and more elaborate gigs, their under-grown status is breaking this very moment.
The hypnotic ‘Mocking Swing’, offers some high-endLana Del Rey – class, and rounds of Headspin with as much fresh potential, difference and exciting new angles as you can compress into one track. Well working as a representation of the whole EP, and further on the future of the fast growing Black Honey. This group will most definitely bloom this summer, and might soon outgrow the oh-so-loved label of 'ones to watch'.
